Friends of Trees // #3: Irati Ayerza

We’ve joined forces with 5 inspiring creatives from across the globe to introduce our very first YKRA KIDS line designed by artist Anna Kövecses.
Discover our FRIENDS OF TREES - THE REFORESTATION MOVEMENT collection with visual storyteller and photographer Irati Ayerza (@iratiayerza) in the third edition of our mini-series.

Tell us a little about yourself! (Where are you from? What do you do? etc.)
My name is Irati, I’m 37 years old, and I live in the Basque Country (north of Spain). I’m a mother of two boys and for the past year and a half I’ve dedicated myself to photography, especially family photography and children's fashion photography.
Why did you choose this tree (or/and the location too)? Why is this location special to you?
These trees are beech trees and are very emblematic in the Basque Country. Throughout time, they’ve been closely linked to all kinds of myths and legends. I love their twisted shapes in which they pretend to be giants and the cool shade that they give on hot summer days.
If you were a tree, what type of tree would you be and why? :)
A Baobab to enjoy the African light from the heights; it seems to be a very curious tree.
