Friends of Trees // #2: Nadi Horváth
We’ve teamed up with 5 inspiring creatives from across the globe to introduce our very first YKRA KIDS line co-designed with artist Anna Kövecses: THE FRIENDS OF TREES - THE REFORESTATION MOVEMENT Collection!
We’ve asked each guest to help us raise awareness through their own artistic lense, while educating children and youth about deforestation, and the importance of protecting nature.
In the second edition of our mini-series, get to know photographer Nadi Horváth (@bernadetteishere) and her daughter Míra, as they spend the summer on a small Croatian island with the SIDE POUCH!
Tell us a little about yourself! (Where are you from? What do you do? etc.)
I’m a photographer based in Budapest. At the moment, I’m taking a creative sabbatical and spending it on a small Croatian island, as my first book will be published in e-book form in August - so my days are filled with writing, photography and adventure. My little daughter Míra is 4 years old and it’s always so energizing to go exploring the island with her, as she has an amazing imagination and wherever we go we’re the characters in her fictional stories.
Why did you choose this tree (or/and the location too)? Why is this special to you?
I chose the palm tree because I have a very vivid childhood memory of seeing one for the first time in real life. I just stood there and couldn't believe that this magical plant really existed, and not just in fairy tales. I have so many photos of palm trees.
To me, a palm tree is like a good friend who’s moved abroad, someone who you rarely see, but when you meet again, you pick up exactly where you left off.
If you were a tree, what a tree you would be and why? :)
If I were a tree, I would be standing in the garden of a family house. I would watch as generations grow up, while providing shade and fruit. I would be the tree you think back on all your life and smile when you remember.
